Welcome to Playtime Under 5s

I have been working in play groups since 1976 when, with a group of friends, I opened my first play group in Northern Ireland. Since then I have worked in a number of play groups and children’s nurseries around the world. All the experience I gained during this time has now been put to good use in forming and running Playtime Under 5’s.

Our History

Playtime Under 5’s opened in St Paul’s School, St Nicholas Road, Brighton in September 1987, we moved to our current location in November 1996. We are ideally situated in the grounds of Aldrington Park and the accommodation provided is of an excellent standard, including an outside play area.

Accreditation

Playtime Under 5’s is registered with the Brighton & Hove Local Authority and is a member of the City Early Years, Childcare & Play (CEYCP) and accredited by Quality Improvement in Learning and Teaching (QuILT). We also operate to the Office For Standards in Education (OFSTED) standard in desirable learning outcome. Our aim at playtime Under 5’s is to provide a warm friendly atmosphere in which children can freely express themselves within a structured environment.

We are registered with Brighton & Hove City local authority and all children aged 2,3 & 4 years are entitled to 15 hours Government funding per week in school term time only.

likeChildren will become involved in subjects such as art, cookery, and singing and obtain a basic understanding of shapes, colours, numbers and letters as identified within the curriculum guidance for the Foundation Stage (See Early Learning Goals).

It’s not all work; a great deal of emphasis is placed on children enjoying themselves.  Playtime Under 5’s recognises the importance of multi cultural development and as such will celebrate festivals from different cultures, as well as life styles in other countries.

Children are regularly monitored and observed and records kept of their performance. These records are available to parents and are used to assist in the child’s development, the preparation of yearly reports and transfer documents for schools.

What parents say about us

Very pleased with how he is doing.  He seems to now take a keen interest in his numbers and letters (Just as Tasha had assured me he would).  So that's great and he is really enthusiastic about learning them.  It’s great seeing photos of him enjoying playing and doing his activities at Playtime.  He sat and went through his book and really liked seeing himself and started going over his work.  very cute to see!  Thank you so much for your excellent work.
